Robert Rodriguez is something of an anomaly in Hollywood. Although Dreamworks and Pixar can make one film for all ages, “Double R” can make one type of movie for individual types of audiences -then turn right around and easily make one film for everyone. Not many other filmmakers can do that. All of his movies are great, (being that he’s a gifted and visionary filmmaker) and no matter which way he takes a movie, it seems he can’t lose. He did such a great job tying a kids story into a semi-adult situation for his sequence “The Misbehavers” in the movie Four Rooms. The success of that skit undoubtedly let people know what he was capable of and later helped shape the formula which yielded Spy Kids and his other “Nick friendly flicks”.

His latest adventure, titled Shorts, is about a group of kids who find a magic wishing rock. This rock will grant any wish that their hearts desire. Once some adults get their hands on it, chaos ensues and it is up to the kids to come to the rescue. I’ll say that since I don’t have kids of my own I generally overlook “kid films”. But after watching this trailer (simply because it’s a Rodriguez movie) I found myself laughing when I otherwise wouldn’t have. This is also a reason I am posting about this movie.
So, follow the link to the Nickelodeon website to see the latest trailer…or you can see the slightly older one below:

That said, any takers? Anyone like the “kid friendly” side of Robert Rodriguez??
