GI JOE snakeeyes

Well, I think I can safely say that I’m in the majority of the people who think G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra turned out a lot better than we thought it would.  That said I really had tons of fun with this movie and am excited to find out that a JOE sequel is [somewhat] on it’s way.  From the guys at First Showing, we get the following:

In the LA Times report on the weekend box office (G.I. Joe ended up with $54.7 million) they say that “the studio’s vice chairman, Rob Moore, confirmed that a sequel will soon go into development.” This is great news for those who liked it, but bad news for everyone else. “The film’s lead actors are contractually obligated to return for another film, though director Stephen Sommers is not.”

There are countless things wrong with G.I. JOE but hands down, this film is a blast if you enjoy mindless entertainment and, dare I say it, it was better than Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen.  Regarding the prospect of the JOE sequel, I am really surprised and quite frankly glad of this news.  I think Sommers did a great job of building his film to a climax whereby a sequel was not just hinted at, it was almost screaming to be made.  Personally, and I might be alone on this but, I would to see Sommers return for this second film.  Due to the respectable box office turnout, I can see how the studios will be itching to green light this and actually I’ll be a lot more on board to see it than I was this first one.  Who knows, maybe in a world of unnecessary remakes and reboots, a mindless fun/adventure story will impress more and more naysayers and continue to be a winning formula.  Can I say I liked the movie one more time?

What do the rest of you think?  Did it surpass your (possibly low) expectations?  Did it get you excited for a sequel??  Anyone yell Yo Joe whilst leaving the theater?…didn’t think so:P
