    G-S-T Review…Uncut Gems

We’ve all seen plenty of after school specials and PSAs telling us that crime doesn’t pay, and tons of films where playing to and with criminals doesn’t end well…even in Guy Ritchie flicks. But why not throw a log another log on that fire? A few years ago, The Safdie Brothers (Josh and Benny) cast Robert Pattinson as the lead in Good Time. What. A. Ride. It’s been a decade since Daddy Lonlegs and The Black Balloon, and since then, they seem to enjoy and have found their niche taking everybody – from their lead actor, the uncomfortably put-upon supporting cast, and even the audience – through the ringer. Uncut Gems is very much in…

Billy Madison and Ace Ventura Could Be Guardians

One offer decline later, casting rumors continue for James Gunn’s 2014 superhero film, Guardians of the Galaxy. The start of the new year saw rumors cropping up over Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s possible involvement in the picture– he would have played the lead– but it only took about a week for him to turn the role down* and hop on board Sin City 2 instead. But there’s good news! We may have lost a Jo-Go, but we’re potentially gaining an Adam Sandler and/or a Jim Carrey instead! If I’ve earned any privileges in my time writing for Go, See, Talk! and for the web in general, one of them must be a…

    G-S-T Review…Hotel Transylvania

These days all major studios have an animation department that competes in the realm of animated films.  While Disney/Pixar dominates the animated film scene, what about the other studios that are bringing different types of animated films to the table?  Not everyone wants to see the same Disney boilerplate template over and over again; they want some variety.  Some studios have made it a point to push the boundaries of a PG rated animated film, poking fun at Disney classics and children’s tales.  Sony Pictures Animation does not go that far, but they certainly have taken their films in another direction.  Hotel Transylvania is a film that may have the…

    G-S-T Review…Funny People

Judd Apatow and the gang just released Funny People starring Adam Sandler and Seth Rogen.  I tried to avoid reading any early reviews posted from viewers of midnight screening and the like so I could go into this knowing only the basics.  I’ll say I was impressed and here’s why: PREMISE:  Adam Sandler plays stand-up comic turned professional comedy actor George Simmons.  When George learns that he is diagnosed with a rare blood disease he tries to make the most out of the time he has left. Over the course of the movie he gets back to his roots in stand-up comedy and attempts to reach out to people to…
