Sweet Trailer…Quentin Tarantino’s ‘The Hateful Eight’

For a filmmaker who is on the cusp of his own portended retirement, this could be one helluva swan song. Quentin Tarantino returns with his eagerly anticipated The Hateful Eight and already it looks like it will be everything we’ve been expecting. Touting a full-on roster of QT regulars, this snow bound, star-studded tale of betrayal and deception is going to be all the more striking when the Quentin’s glorious crimson spatters decorate a snowy white landscape. Man, this really makes me want to dive into Quentin’s last 4 or 5 films (especially Django), or any number of Kurt Russell flicks, just to tide me over. One thing is for…

G-S-T Quick 5 – Favorite Nora Ephron Films

For our second installment of posts dedicated to great directors, we’ve chosen to highlight the top five films from the late Nora Ephron. Ephron, who was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia in 2006 and passed away earlier this summer at the age of 71, was a force of nature. Not only did she bring us classic stories like When Harry Met Sally and Sleepless in Seattle, she was also an accomplished journalist, essayist, playwright, producer, director and novelist. So while we want to highlight her work as a director, arguably one of the best female directors of our time, her accomplishments as a writer in so many forms should be highly noted…

The Hollywood Fantasy Draft II – "Broken Ties”

Last year Anomalous Material created the Hollywood Fantasy Draft. Man it was so much fun to play Studio Exec for a week or two. Sitting there, waiting, watching, hoping you’d get your top picks (or not) and biting your nails the whole time. Then when you got your choices of director and actors you start out to write the story for them to star in. In the past month or so all participants have been using their awesome picks in very intriguing roles and premises. I haven’t gotten around to them all but I think everyone has fared better in this second run through. Below is the story I came up with…

Are Some Movies Better on TV? (Or With Beer?)

While channel surfing this weekend, I found myself sitting there thinking about something I never thought I’d say aloud. To my friend Breese, I proclaimed, “I really like Tango & Cash“. I know, I know, it was a shock to me too. My positive opinion on the movie only comes from watching it with a half-focused attention span during our viewing. It also helped that it was replete with commercials and some “picture in picture” channel flipping of course. To keep myself on good terms with all you readers, I’ll tell you that I don’t own T&C, or will I ever put in on any of my “favorite” lists. Yet in light of my most recent…
