The Ghostbusters School of Ghostbusting?

In some interesting plot news regarding the latest Ghostbusting escapade, Dan Aykroyd gives some insight into the series’ 3rd installment.  It looks like the passing the torch rumors have evolved into a sort of ‘Ghostbusters Academy’. You can read more about what Aykroyd has to say from the post on MTV.

To me this could be like mixing Hogwart’s Academy with Police Academy and this may end up working.  It would be very reminiscent of the first proton pack scenes in the original Ghostbusters.  I’ll admit, after seeing the British Office (which I love), I never got on board with the American version.  My friends have tried to get me to watch but its just not my humor.  I hope the involvement of Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky lets them create dialogue and plot that is more in the vein of Ramis, Aykroyd and Reitmans’ Ghostbusters and not the Office.

Either way, I’m not hopeful.  Not because I don’t love Ghostbusters, but because somethings just can’t be resurrected to relive the glory of the past.  Again, I point everyone to Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.

At the end of the day, it may be very funny, entertaining and I may have been completely wrong about it, but for now I’m not holding my breath for a great turnout.  But what do the rest of you think?  Are you holding out for a return to Ghostbusters’ slime fighting glory?

Wow… I hadn’t heard about this but I am intrigued. I loved both Ghostbusters and Ghostbusters two, and I just hope that if the project gets made it gets made well.
